Wanted an Internet Solution for Kwajalein

Wanted an Internet Solution for Kwajalein

Postby Ilya Bourim » Thu Nov 11, 2004 1:07 am

Hi,

We need a High Speed Internet Satellite solution to support about 15 computers in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands. We can provide cabling, switches, and router. We need everything else: dish, modem, monthly access plan and everything else that is needed. It has to be two-way. We have phone lines provided by the military, but prefer to use satellite for upload and download. Later on, there might be a possiblity of VoIP.

If you know who can provide this please let us know.

I may be coming to Kwajalein, (if I'm lucky) I have been thinking about the same thing, I now have DSL and spoiled, I would miss it a lot. From my research Intelsat 701, Telstar 18, AsiaSat 2, or AsiaSat 4 might could be used for this. The equipment might could be purchased through Direcway and Direcway would also be the ISP. Two problems though:

1. Would the Army let us do it, the military gets squirly
2. Directway needs some one with an FCC licenses to install the equipment, with all the high powered people on Kwaj, I don't think that would be a problem.

I think the way to deal with the Army would be to put together a prosable and submit it through Army channels, that way the Army would have control and wouldn't be so paranoid. If I come to Kwajalein I'll share the cost if you guys haven't got it going yet.
