This is the small island in the Lemmon Cays called Isla Elefante. It has, amazingly, a satellite dish and internet connection. Internet station Elefante , (like Ice Station Zebra in the middle of nowhere) is an island not quite 250 yards long and 50 yards wide and 3 feet above the water at Lat. 09'32.8 N and Long. 78'54.0 W. It is protected by surrounding treacherous reefs, officially called Naguarchirdup of the Lemmon Cays in the San Blas Islands, Panama.

This is a popular spot on the island with only three broadband cables to plug into your computer for internet access. No AC plug-in, so the the computer must be fully charged.

Amazing with new technology, even in the San Blas Islands there is internet access.

On shore there is a generator building, a bar with chairs and tables for cold alcoholic drinks, a large satellite dish for internet, a small satellite dish for big screen television above the bar counter, a palm roofed kitchen hut with a packed sand floor to support the food offerings with lobster, steak and hamburgers.

Inside the lagoon were 11 boats under anchor or mooring, but there will be many more boats arriving as the call is out that the internet is working again after 11 down days. And there is easily room for 50 to 60 boats or more. This is put together by a Kuna Indian chief Alberto with the help of a German sailor Yogi, from the SY Samantha Nova. The grounds are maintained by the chief's clan of brothers, sisters, uncles, cousins, kids and grandparents. On Christmas Eve Arnaldo had organized a pig roast on the open fire pit and the cruisers were invited to participate with a shared dish. It was a great way to meet other cruisers and to spend a nice evening. Even a lit and decorated Christmas tree was set up.
