Problem VPN and DW7000

Postby dish1001 » Wed Jan 17, 2007 1:56 am

Just installed DW7000 Hughes Direcway modem (2 way Satellite Internet) - works well but can't connect to Office (Cisco based) VPN. Can connect with dial up - DSL at other sites AND my cottage DW6000 Sat modem -ALL using same VPN name/password and SAME laptop? Local tech support boggled and Hughes Directway "servers busy" forever, so I can't even download the DW7000 user guide (not supplied with install).

Any ideas/experience with DW7000 and VPN? Thanks dish1001

Did you ever get this resolved? I just upgraded to the DW7000 and now I can't get into my Cisco VPN. :(

I recently purchased the DW7000 system, business option, large dish, static IP. MS vpn client will not connect. Co-worker connects fine with DW6000 system. Direcway support claims that the vpn connection should work with the static ip without additional changes but will not troubleshoot further. Another post on this site indicates the 7000 systems changed how the static ip addresses are assigned but not clear on what other configuration changes are required to use the static ip. Has anyone else encountered and resolved this?

If you do nothing, you will not have a static IP, simple as that. The DW 6000 automatically assigned the static IP, but the DW 7000 never will.

You must assign the static IP to the first device in the chain manually. If you are using a router, that means you assign it to the router. If you are direct-connecting a computer to the modem, you assign it to the computer.

Open 192.168.0.1 and look in System Info. On the left side you will see "LAN1 IP Address" which is the modem's IP address. Your static IP will be one higher. Using the hypothetical IP 68.68.68.68, here's how you would setup the router or computer:

IP Address 68.68.68.69 (your static IP)
Mask: 255.255.255.252 (must not be anything but .252)
Gateway: 68.68.68.68 (the modem)

You will also need to enter DNS manually. Direcway default is 66.82.4.8 but there are others you can use.

Thanks for the info! Worked the first time with these settings.

I was poking around in this direction but didn't have the right combination. Direcway support insisted nothing needed to be configured on the workstation, even on the dw7000 which led me down the wrong path as well!
