Optus service on secondhand Gilat Skyedge IP satellite modem

Postby Skyedge_IP » Tue Oct 27, 2009 10:24 am

Have acquired a secondhand Gilat Skyedge IP satellite modem.

I want to use this on the Optus satellite service but need to set the external IP address the same as my current satellite modem that no longer functions.

Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your Internet provider should be able to give you the settings. You'll need your CPA or circuit ID and IP address.

Your IP address is the same as your computer or modem IP address less 1, (for example: if your PC address is 10.20.30.202, then your modem address will be 10.20.30.201).

You can access these settings in your Modem GUI, but you'll also need to put some other settings in applicable to your service – there are a whole host of settings that can be different depending the satellite, SY/SW circuit etc.

I would suggest calling your ISP help desk and getting them to step you through the process as this would be the easiest. I have the settings required for a lot of them, but without a load more info, I don't know if I can help.

The ISP (Optus) has advised that they are unable to help and their engineering support team will not assist on this matter as it was not supplied by them? It is the same brand and model of modem yet ISP will not assist.

I have copied the modem settings from another Gilat to this one but do not know how to set the external IP address. I will have exact Gilat Skyedge modem model number tomorrow.

Any more assistance extremely appreciated.

I think your ISP is also going to need to know your modems serial / mac address number?

Nope, not for Gilat gear.

OK – was the modem that you copied the settings from on the same circuit? If it was, then it should be fine. If not, the settings will still need to be changed.

Your Circuit ID or CPA ID is what you need. Most Optus installs have this on the paperwork. I know for HarbourIT, we have to actually put it on a sticker on the modem.

If you can't get this, you can't set the modem up. If Optus won't give it to you, i suggest calling the TIO.
