Linux and Gilat Satellite Modem 360 Connection Problem

Postby dr_Harison » Mon Oct 26, 2009 3:35 pm

I am a new user of Linux, particularly Ubuntu. I am currently using windows XP prof SP2 on the server and ubuntu 5.10 on the workstations.

I got a problem migrating my server to Ubuntu Linux particularly on internet connection. Ubuntu is great, it detected all my device, particularly HP officejet 4255, and Gilat Satellite Modem 360.

But the problem is, on how to connect to the internet using my modem connected to my USB port. The modem is probably detected because it displayed in the device manager. Does anyone of you can help me on how to connect to the internet using my modem?

Is there an Ethernet connection for that one, or just usb?

My folks have that modem at home, I have it hooked to a Linksys wireless-G router, so the other machines in the house can share the connection.

If you hook it to the router, your connection becomes OS independent. Also, you have more USB bandwidth to spare if you use the Ethernet option. Let us know if it helps.

thanks bro!
i haven't tried hooking it to the Ethernet card on my present server. I only have a USB(s) and 1 Ethernet (built-in). I'll just try to purchase a new Ethernet card and will try to it again if it works.

Thanks a lot!
