Postby Admin » Wed Oct 21, 2009 7:12 pm

Sometimes after upload the new OPT file to iDirect modem, the modem won’t start normally. It could be your OPT file was corrupted. In this state you could not connect to your iDirect box via iSite. What you need to do is ask the new OPT file to your provider and follow these few steps:

1. Connect to your box via console and run your hyperterminal on your PC/laptop.
2. You will ask to insert the username & password, the default are iDirect login : root, password : iDirect.
3. To prevent your box reset you need to stop the falcon monitor service using this command : service idirect_falcon stop.
4. Now change your directory to /etc/idirect/falcon using this command : cd /etc/idirect/falcon, you will see the OPT file falcon.opt on this directory by this command : ls -l.
5. Your next step is delete this file using this command : rm falcon.opt.
6. Open your new OPT file from your provider using notepad, copy all content on this file.
7. Back to your hyperterminal then put this command : cat > falcon.opt, then press enter, next paste and press ^D.
8. Now your box has new OPT file, then restart your box. login using default username & passowrd.
9. When you already in, put this command : telnet 0, if you are success update your OPT, you’ll asking to login again, the default user & pass are : user : admin; pass : P@55w0rd!. If doesn’t work, ask to your provider what the user & pass are ?.

Now you should be able to manage your box via iSite.

How to upload iDirect OPT file without iSite (from console)

Postby ninosat » Wed Oct 21, 2009 7:48 pm

If an iNFINITI modem has a bad options (OPT) file, it will not start correctly. The lights may flash red or amber, and it reboots every 60-90 seconds. If this happens, you will not be able to reload the OPT file using iSite.

To repair the problem, you must load the OPT file from console, using a serial cable. The following instructions assume you have Microsoft Windows XP installed, but Windows Vista, Mac OSX, and Linux can also be used with slight changes. You must have the latest, correct OPT file for this modem from our support staff. Make sure the serial number of the OPT file matches the serial number of the modem.

1. Connect a console/null modem cable between the COM port of your PC and the RJ-45 "console" port of the iDirect iNFINITI modem.
2. On your Windows PC, start Hyperterminal.
3. At the "New Connection" window, enter any name, and press "OK".
4. Choose to connect using COM1.
5. At the COM1 port settings, enter:
Bits per second 9600
Data bits 8
Parity none
Stop bits 1
Flow control none

6. Hit OK.
7. You should now see the iDirect modem startup screen, or login prompt:

iDirect Linux 2.4.24-uc0-iDirect0

Kernel 2.4.24-uc0-iDirect0 on an armv5b

iDirect login:

8. Login with user "root" and default password "iDirect".
9. At the # prompt, immediately run:

service idirect_falcon stop

10. The modem will stop rebooting. Now we must upload the correct OPT file. At the # prompt, run:

cd /etc/idirect/falcon/

cp falcon.opt falcon.opt.old

11. Open the OPT file in Notepad or any text editor. Select the first 10 lines of the file, and press Ctrl-C to copy them. Return to the terminal, and at the # prompt, run:

cat > falcon.opt

12. You will not see a # prompt. Paste the 10 lines by choosing the "Edit" menu, "Paste to Host". You will see the lines displayed in the terminal.
13. Note*: If you see slight changes or extra lines, this is due to a display bug in Hyperterminal. Ignore it.
14. Return to Notepad, and copy the next 10 lines. DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING ELSE in the terminal, and paste the lines.
15. Repeat this, pasting 10 lines at a time, until you have pasted the entire OPT file into the terminal.
16. When done, press Ctrl-D to end the file. If you made a mistake at any time, press Ctrl-C, and start over from "cat > falcon.opt".
17. At the # prompt, run:

service idirect_falcon start

You should now see falcon (the iDirect modem software) start:

Starting falcon:Initializing Falcon ...

Seeding RNG... OK
