Help me choose dish for OpenSky Pakistan

Postby mani_ » Sat Nov 04, 2006 11:44 pm

Hello everyone,

I am running OpenSky satellite internet service from last 3 months with an old dish which is not giving me better performance which should I at least expect. I got only 29% signal strength. I am from Pakistan.

Now I have decided to buy a new dish. I have two choices, aluminum and fiber. Which will be better? My old dish is 8ft ... should I go for same dimension for new dish?

Please guide me. Thanks

Hi mani,
Aluminum dish is always better, but try  to check your present dish fault first, why it is not giving enough gain/signal, if its size is small then you must change otherwise try to fix it. It is not big deal but need some patience. The following are the main points:

1 - Is there any tree / building covering your dish front
2 - How it was working when first installed, if it was good then you must need only adjustment - like feed horn or dish position realignment, cable connector re-tightening etc. Try to get help from some experience installer
3- Is dish very old? how its curve structure?

Hello Mani,

Another option that you may check (in case you are sure the dish itself is the problem), is to paint it with reflective paint. I don't know if it is available for you and if it is easier than getting a new dish, but it is a point you may like to consider. Also, did you check the LNB?
